Big Ten travel intensifies academic support

Student-athletes shine as all 22 teams earn a 3.0 GPA or better!

Coast-to-coast flights, time zone changes and body-clock fatigue can plague any traveler. For student-athletes balancing study and sport, it can play havoc with grades and academic performance.

But not for the Huskies.

Thanks to the support of generous donors like you, Washington Athletics has expanded its already robust Student-Athlete Academic Services to meet the demands of Big Ten competition.

This year, more tutors, exam proctors and members of our 19-person academic support staff traveled with our teams. This equates to nearly 350 hours of individualized support provided to student-athletes each week and more than 3,000 tutoring sessions held every year.Football's Elinneus Davis talking with academic staff

It’s all paying off as Washington student-athletes uphold the rigorous academic standards of the Big Ten:

  • In the winter quarter of 2024-25, the Department-wide GPA hit 3.49.
  • Every team earned an average 3.0 GPA or better.
  • More than one-third of our 550 student-athletes (243) made the Dean’s List with a 3.5 GPA or better.
  • More than 85 percent (479) posted a 3.0 or greater, with 28 student-athletes boasting perfect 4.0s.

Thank you, Tyee Club members, for helping our student-athletes shine in the classroom!

You can support student-athletes’ academic growth and holistic development with a donation to The Go BIG! Fund.
